KEYNOTE: Effective support for staff exposed to traumatic events through direct and indirect exposure requires workers to understand the impact of vicarious and collective trauma. Learn the definition of vicarious and collective trauma and identify symptoms and risk factors for both. Learn techniques for enhancing protective factors against vicarious trauma, including brain regulation and relational skill building.
THURSDAY PM WORKSHOP: Victimization, Trauma Bonding & Learned Helplessness - A significant frustration for service providers working with victims of trauma is the confusing and seemingly unreasonable connection many victims have to their perpetrators.
BIO: Ms. Yanosy’s career has integrated clinical work, education, and administration, resulting in expertise in individual and family therapy, program and curriculum development, and program evaluation and replication. Ms. Yanosy currently teaches at the Fordham University School of Social Services and the Columbia University School of Public Health. She served as the Founding Director of an international training and consultation organization serving over 350 organizations across the US and in 7 other countries, teaching human service providers to implement trauma-informed interventions. Most recently, Ms. Yanosy co-developed the PRESENCE Model, an online training program for trauma-responsive practice. Ms. Yanosy received her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Cornell University and Smith College respectively, and has completed post graduate programs at New York University, Fordham University and Columbia Business School.

- Explore attachment-based and biologically-based reasons that victims often struggle to disengage from the people who hurt them.
- Learn ways for service providers to manage the emotional toll that comes with exposure to victims’ symptoms, behaviors, and choices that often seem to contradict their desire to heal from the trauma.
- Strategies for helping victims move forward in their recovery and ultimately learn to set relational boundaries and avoid re-traumatization.

She has a master’s degree in human resources from Fort Hays State University and is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources. Over the last 14 years she has supported an array of organizations in the human services and education space in both non-profit and for-profit settings. Brittney is particularly invested in building HR’s capability to add value to the business by focusing on strategic and data-driven decisions.

FRIDAY PM GENERAL SESSION: With 40+ years of experience in law enforcement, Edward Logan has dedicated his career to preventing drug overdoses and poisonings by investigating and prosecuting drug trafficking organizations and ensuring healthcare professionals comply with the Controlled Substances Act. Mr. Logan joined the Philadelphia Police Department (1982) while studying for his Criminal Justice degree. As a police officer, he served on uniform patrol and was part of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force for a decade. He oversaw a team that gathered intelligence on narcotics, trained officers about drugs, and was a DEA Group Supervisor for four years. He was the spokesperson for the Narcotics Unit and led two episodes of the TV show "COPS." In 2011, Edward became a Diversion Investigator for the DEA Philadelphia Division. Throughout his career at the agency, he has had various positions, including managing the Diversion Field Training Program in Quantico, Virginia. He has since been promoted to Diversion Group Supervisor for the DEA Washington Division where he currently leads the diversion operations for the Norfolk District Office. FRIDAY PM GENERAL SESSION: Strategic Alliance: Prevention Across the Continuum of Care - Substance misuse prevention efforts educate and support individuals and communities to prevent the use and misuse of drugs, yet there remains a portion of our communities who use substances. Harm reduction includes strategies and ideas that aim to reduce the negative consequences related to substance misuse. Harm reduction can be considered as an approach to secondary prevention of risky behavior among youth with the intent to save lives, reduce consequences and build support.
BIO: Yvonne has worked in the field of prevention, treatment and recovery for more than 20 years. She has served in various capacities, including executive director of a non-profit as well as senior management. Yvonne collaborates with individuals and social agencies to promote environmental strategies and educates the public about the dangers and consequences associated with youth’s use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and other social issues affecting youth and the community. Yvonne has knowledge and experience working to create policy change; advocating for the implementation of behavior change strategies and works to promote cultural awareness and diversity to meet the inclusionary standards. She is a consultant for the Opioid Response Network, CADCA and a part-time adjunct professor.
